[SOLVED] Re: Building first computer....need help

I made a boot drive with a new usb drive (got a few SanDisk drives on the cheap) and it worked fine. The filesystem was "W95 FAT32", or some rearrangement of those characters. I'm writing this post...

    [all variants] Re: Harddrive advice

I've read about wear leveling, but I didn't have it in mind while writing my last post. I also didn't know if it was sufficient to overcome the wear of an OS that writes to root directory frequently...

    [all variants] Harddrive advice

I recently put together a new desktop (see sig), but I'm still using the harddrive out of my old laptop that died. It's 320GB, and most likely 5400RPM.

[all variants] Re: Does ALSA conflict with PulseAudio?

Actually, I have wine using ALSA right now since winehq says fallout 3 needs that setting. I'll try them with wine using pulseaudio.

    I'll try using wine1.4, thanks.

[all variants] Re: Does ALSA conflict with PulseAudio?

Problem #2 is solved by post #3 in this bug report thread: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfce4-volumed/+bug/883485/.

The solution in post #2 also reportedly works.

    Problem #1 still stands, though.

Thanks for the link. I'll try it later today.

Edit: I read the thread and decided to try post #3. It worked perfectly. Thanks again.

[all variants] Does ALSA conflict with PulseAudio?

I've been having some sound problems, and I wonder if they might be caused by having both alsa and pulseaudio installed/running.
