Hey Everyone,

Thanks for the quick reply 9d9!
After some tinkering I decided to stop forcing nfsv3. I just took the "vers=3" out of fstab and that worked for some reason.
Hey all. I have a strange problem that has popped up suddenly. I oversee a linux lab that uses a server for network logins and mounts the home directories. This has worked fine for years. Over spring...
The only reason I don't want to recreate the user accounts is that the accounts are in use and I would rather not interrupt service more than reseting their passwords along with a day or two of down...
That's a good point. My only worry is losing the NIS users I have and having to recreate since there is such a large number.
BTW: Thank for taking the time to help someone new to Linux admin.
I agree, it was a bad idea. I wish I knew better when I was building this system.
Looks like I'm setting up LDAP on my server then when students are gone for the Summer I am rebuilding with...
Well, I don't know much about it so I could be wrong. The specific vulnerability I am trying to fix is if a root user connected to my nis server, creates a user with the same uid as me, they get my...
Thank you both for the quick replies! When setting up Kerberos on my server, I assume I will have to recreate all the users. I cannot find any way to port them from NIS to Kerberos. Am I correct in...
Hey everyone,
I've been looking through documentation for NIS+ and Kerberos and thought I would ask to hear from people with experience. I have an existing NIS login system with 100+ users....
Total Ubuntu newbie here.
I have an existing NIS/NFS environment. I want to add Kerberberos authentication. Is there a way to do that without having to rebuild servers and clients?
Thanks in...
It is not a video issue. when I try to boot, instead of grub or any kind of splash there is a black screen with a flashing dash in the corner.
Changing the hostname in those two files did not help. Still not grub. Still no boot. Ubuntu 10.10 works though...
Haha, I knew it had to be something this simple. Thanks a lot!
It shows the flash drive as Legacy.
On a hunch I installed Ubuntu 10.10 and it works on both machines A and B.
Thanks everyone for their help.
So I guess my problem is that ubuntu isn't showing as EFI bootable on any other machines.
The Boot menu does show the drive (on machine B). However it is not in the 'EFI Boot Sources', it is under 'Legacy Boot Sources'. It is labeled 'ST500DM002' (the name of the HDD). When I choose the...
Both systems have identical BIOS settings and both boot using EFI. They are all fresh from the factory and out of the box.
I don't know much about EFI. Does it use the UUID in some way and that's...
Yes I am sure it's not just B machine. I am actually trying to set up a computer lab so I tried cloning and swapping the drives of two other machines around.
So you don't think there's anything I can do in Ubuntu to get this to work. You think it's a Clonzilla issue?
The live CD shows the system files and boot partition are on the hard drive.
I am using Clonezilla to clone these machines.
Ok, so here's the setup:
I created an image on machine A. I imaged it onto machine B. Machine B will not boot. No grub loader or anything. I put the HDD from machine A into B and it does not boot....
Sorry for posting what seems like it should be pretty straight forward. I couldn't find a solution and thought I would try here.
I am trying to backup and NFS share to a magnetic tape drive....
First off, thanks for the quick reply!
We don't have the clientaddr option set so it has been set automatically.
If we were to set the clientaddr, reboot, log in and let the server see the new...
I work at a college campus. We have an NFS/NIS ubuntu server with clients in a lab. I made a VirtualBox image of Ubuntu that mounts the NFS share and uses NIS to login.
The VBox image was made on...
I have a NFS/NIS server set up and a Linux lab that accesses it.
I was to give students(college) a virtual machine of the same image that is in the linux lab so they can work from home. In testing...
