Do you have any other operating systems on the hard drive? Did you install 12.04 with any options? What's your hardware?

Before having wireless trouble, I had to turn acpi=off to regain control of my laptop's brightness controls.
So, it turns out that booting the LiveCD with acpi=off somehow locks the wireless...

Can I rename Wubi's automatically downloaded 689MB Ubuntu file (type FUSE_HIDDEN) as a .iso, burn it to a CD, and use it as a liveCD to address boot...
