Re: "Being open source is killing Android"

Didn't android edge out windows this year and is now the most used operating system on any platform for any technology?

    Yeah, its really struggling...

The weaknesses are also strengths. If...

His BIO mentions that he is a 17 year old high school student. So he can't legally enter into contracts...I wonder what the various implications are of a CEO who can't legally be contractually...

Re: Using Debit Card for online payment

This is exactly why paypal exists. Paypal sends a one time payment so the company doesn't have permanent access.

But for ebay...come on...they're reputable. As reputable as paypal. So there's not...
  4. Re: Hey guys and gals... what do you DO all day?

My advice is to get a job- any job- with a company that has a large number of people doing what you want to do. If they are regularly posting openings, showing some turnover, that's a plus. From...

  7. Re: Any thoughts on the Odroid U3 running Ubuntu?

    You asked, specially... :-p

I don't have any personal experience with the U3. I think most of the ubuntu users are on the odroid XU though its a good bit more expensive.

    Here's a 13.10...

    ...so many options...

There's the cubox-i, which ranges in price from $55 and up depending on version, but its a "complete" product with case.

There's the J1900 which is an SOC from intel that...

  10. Re: Question and Request to Spread the Word about Bestbuy

They probably reimage it from the restore partition, which you may or may not wipe when you install linux.
  11. Re: Search an entire state for homes - Is a Web Crawler the right way to go?

You have to bring back the data to filter it...there's no magical way you can run an algorithm on data you don't have. Typically you capture the page as an XML and mine the xml for the data you want....
  12. Re: Question and Request to Spread the Word about Bestbuy

I can see their perspective. Modifying the device, and they're going to have to send time returning it to its original state. Maybe insignificant, maybe not, depending.

    Why not just restore the...
  13. Re: Chrome App Store is a source of virus

    So..

    1. You willingly installed an app that had advertising you didn't like.
    2. You determined that the app was a "virus" because of this app's function, which you knowingly installed.
    3. You...

This isn't just built with off the shelf parts. Everything is open source, including the firmware, bios, gpu, etc. Its expensive because large parts of it were custom made just for this project....

Re: Good reason to install antivirus now!

I've never heard this ever before and searching through several bank sites found no evidence of it.

We need a well supported device

The Nexus line from Google got me thinking this. Ubuntu Desktop needs a "flagship" device that is 100% supported, as a proof of concept to show users and developers that it is a viable system. I...

No way should it cost you $100 to get your pi running without kb/mouse.
