Re: Need an ideal backup strategy

A backup strategy falls into multiple areas. How many backup sets you have that are distinct? Backup rotation, how often you backup before you get back to the first set. Testing your backups! ...

    Re: partitioning ssd

I would see what the specs and licensing for your chemical process software needs. 128GB of RAM is amazing. Does the program require /swap file space for its processes. I had seen some...

    Re: partitioning ssd

What are you using Ubuntu for? That seems like a huge waste of hardware for it. I used standalone VMware 6 install to partition off my Ubuntu web server for 2 vCPUs, 6 GB. / is 50 GB, /swap is...
  4. Re: Finish learning python or learn C++

I would learn C# over C++. I found C# very easy to write in. Visual Studio does most of the work for you.
  5. [server] Re: No network after messing around with settings

I had the onboard nic stop working after an upgrade. I installed a PCIe NIC to get it up and running till I could figure out why. Good news, its working.
  6. [server] Re: No network after messing around with settings

Try getting a cheap network adapter and installing it in a slot. I picked one up for $20 at Microcenter.
  7. Re: Wordpress setup for blogging on my website

I did not think about blacklisting on my site. I am going to get the UTM licenses for my 60E. The Fortinet 60E is a great firewall that does a lot of this in the UTM license.

Re: Can a SSD drive replace RAM?

Putting a swap on SSD drive can kill it faster. It is cheaper to add ram. Use the SSD for your OS but install a SATA drive and move your paging and temp files to it. Ubuntu is very happy with...

I am going through everything posted so far to make sure I have everything in order. Any sites to check what I need to hardened on my Ubuntu server first?
  11. Re: Wordpress setup for blogging on my website

It will be on my web server at home. So I was looking for better ways to secure the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS server. It is behind a Fortinet 60E firewall. I was going to get their security license...

  13. Re: Wordpress setup for blogging on my website

I have a web server at my house. It holds 4 virtual web sites. I put them on my HP DL360e Gen8 server under VMware 6 standalone. email me for a list of them, <snip>]. Last time I posted them the...
  14. [server] Re: What more server can I create to have at home

If you want to do an email server, you need to setup a Godaddy account and get an A and MX record for your server. A record of Domain.Com and MX record of Mail.Domain.Com. Without an MX record,...
  15. [server] Re: Best way of changing from 2 * RAID 1 to RAID 10

I would consider backing up first and think about hardware RAID 10 over software RAID 10. You need 4 identical drives to make it work properly. Mixing and matching drives in RAID can cause...
  16. Wordpress setup for blogging on my website

I need a better way to blog than writing html5 code on my website. I keep reading about Wordpress for it. I see I can configure it for Ubuntu. Does any use it? Can I look at your site? If you...

    Re: Delete 1TB File

It is unlinking each block as it deletes. Windows does it differently.
