Search on this forum sucks... Like it doesn't work at all.
Anyhow I miss forums, although Ubuntu forum is really badly organized, and feels hard to navigate.
Apologies for digressing. I have an...
Thanks. You don't really have to reboot, but you may need to perform a hard restart (kill the process). Screen lock (super + L) seems to work for some people. There's also "Gnome Shell Extension...
Sorry for jumping in with the off topic question, but I noticed you mentioning xorg. I haven't used a linux desktop distro in years. I will try finding time to install the beta (Or a daily build...
Hello RabbitWho,
when you say you have put the password, do you mean that the drive was encrypted, or just normal password? If you have used 'normal' password, never do that again. That can only...
My system froze after a while with rc5, 14.04, Intel Sandy Bridge Graphics and oibaf repo for mesa and Intel drivers, while I was using VirtualBox and Win 7 guest. Besides that, other stuff seem to...
Great, thank you for your reply! So ps aux shows the full path to the executable... Do you have it on your system(s) too?
Dear all,
I have noticed a process named 'copy', which seems to be active while, for example the 'aptitude update' command is running. Can anyone provide me with some info about this process, like...
Yes 3.17 had issues with VB, but 3.18 works well since rc1.
Which version of VB are you using? In my case switching to older version from offical Ubuntu repo helped. Usually I use latest VirtualBox from Oracle's repo.
I have marked this thread as solved, although that's not 100% the case. The thing is, VirtualBox 4.3.10 from Ubuntu repository works in full screen mode, as usual without issues.
If one wants the...
I have similar issue. Ubuntu 14.04 and Intel graphics. Hosts are Win 7 and Ubuntu 12.04, and behaviour is same in both cases. If I try to turn either full screen or seamless mode, I'll get garbled...
AFAIK, there was a bug, years ago which forced one to do that, and has been fixed since a while. I'm using Virtualbox on Ubuntu host for 5 years now, and I never had to reinstall guest additions....
Since the last update of VirtualBox I am not able to run it in the full screen mode (actually seamless mode is also affected.) any more.
By that I mean the screen freezes, and it doesn't accept any...
Ouch.... I just had to enable the plugin, under Edit->Plugins...
Hi,
with Ubuntu 13.10 I was able to select View->Subtitles->Download movie subtitle or similar option. There is no more such option with 14.04. Subtitle Downloader is a plugin actually, so I have...
You have issues with disks, but you mention you Grpahics. You have one, two , or which number of disks? Which kind of disks (SSD, SATA)? How did you install Ubuntu, have you manually repartitioned,...
Apparently there were no real issues with oibaf (latest mesa and drivers) for above mentioned cards. The issue was because he did an upgrade from 13.10, and during the process...
I have no experience with nvidia and nouveau, but I never had so serious issue which would require making backups of whole root partition. Consider there are not much files you changed, except some...
Warning for people with HD 4000 graphics, and probably newer, just noticed a guy on phoronix forums complaning about issues (only software renderer no 3d support.).
Stable can be dangerous too. I remember ext3 bugs shiped with stock 'stable' kernels, some years ago, which destroyed a lot of data. If one doesn't feel comfortable, just leave it. Regarding Sandy...
You wonder. So if I find a gedit to be silly default calendar app, than I don't appreciate a work of others. I can appreciate that work, and still have a different opinion about things, choosen...
I was getting some distortions in Google Chrome, for example when scrolling on webupd8.org, so I decided to try newer drivers (I have also updated the kernel.) and added oibaf repo.
The difference...
Thanks for your reply. I was aware of other options, but found strange the system has gedit set as default, without ability to change it (at least not in an easy way.). I found that is pretty lame...
So because you don't need it, it is useless. How cool of you.
Regarding your observation about KDE, and easy to disable, on Ubuntu is even more easier because the package is not part of default...
