  1. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    No stuttering all week so I think I've solved my problem. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.
  2. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    In general, I don't know if video card issues could cause ringbuf errors in the frontend.

    In my case, I don't think the video card is involved -- when I watch a recording (or live TV) while...
  3. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    The logical sector stuff? It's in my post above -- "512/4096" for "logical/physical" from fdisk -lu.

    This looks like a good reference for the topic:...
  4. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    It's all about the starting point. As long as the partition begins on a physical sector boundary then every block of the whole partition starts on a physical sector boundary.

    The trouble with...
  5. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    As far as I understand the issue I do have the partition aligned:

    $ sudo fdisk -lu /dev/sdb

    Disk /dev/sdb: 2000.4 GB, 2000398934016 bytes
    81 heads, 63 sectors/track, 765633 cylinders, total...
  6. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    Yeah, I'd say there's some similarity in HDDs:

    $ sudo hdparm -I /dev/sdb

    /dev/sdb:

    ATA device, with non-removable media
    Model Number: WDC WD20EARX-008FB0 ...
  7. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    This issue with Live TV only has been "managed" by many with the practice of pausing plackback for a few seconds at the start of watching Live TV.

    I've redone the partition on my disk to fix...
  8. Re: TV sound is fine but no sound in internet video

    I had the same experience going from 11.04 to 12.04 using HDMI audio from an NVIDIA card. See the links in my second post here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1967755. You may need to...
  9. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    Nothing there either (like dmesg, the last entry is ~20 seconds after boot).

    The alignment looks good:

    $ sudo fdisk -lu /dev/sdb

    Disk /dev/sdb: 2000.4 GB, 2000398934016 bytes
    255...
  10. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    Nothing in dmesg. How do I check kernal logs?

    I saw lots about alignment when I was partitioning the drive. I think I checked that, but I'll double check.
  11. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    I have a combined frontend/backend. (And, incidentally, all networks connections are wired.)

    This hardware has worked fantastically for me in various incarnations with different versions of...
  12. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    I am strongly considering doing something like that, yes. Is ext2 the preferred filesystem (over XFS, over ext4)?
  13. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    I've heard of this bug and have tried pausing and then resuming play. Pausing, even for seconds, doesn't help my issue. Additionally, please note that I have stuttering in live TV and when playing...
  14. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    Huh...hadn't considered that angle. In hopes of expert filesystem insight, here's my fstab (parameters for the XFS partition that all recordings go on are "defaults"):

    $ cat /etc/fstab
    #...
  15. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    Cool utility...I didn't know there was a quick way to check disk performance.

    Here are some results:

  16. Re: Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    Thanks for the reply.

    The operating system ('/') resides on an ext4 partition on the SSD. All recordings are written to an XFS partition on the 2 TB WD drive.

    $ df
    Filesystem ...
  17. Video stuttering: messages about RingBuf, video buffers

    I'm having playback issues on a combined frontend/backend myth system. I've been using MythTV for about three years now with no playback issues. I've upgraded hardware several times, most recently...

    Re: Cron Not Working

    I had a problem with this after upgrading and it was an issue with the environment that cron runs in. I was missing a few configuration files in root. The cron utility does not get the environment...
  19. [SOLVED] Re: Mythbuntu 12.04 - audio in myth fine - no desktop audio

    This process has typically worked for me as well but I had to deal with a new hitch when I upgraded to 12.04. There is a great generalized guide linked here:...
  20. System Occasionally Non-responsive to Input

    What might make my system occasionally non-responsive to user input?

    About once every 20 minutes my Mythbuntu 12.04 32-bit system stops responding to input for about 30 seconds. Input that is...
  21. Re: What's the best way to update channels when a cable provider makes changes?

    This worked itself out once mythfilldatabase ran all the way through.

    This was apparently coincidental as it seems to be a widely reported issue. I used a commonly suggested fix:

    1. Create...
  22. What's the best way to update channels when a cable provider makes changes?

    I use an HDHR to record clear QAM through Comcast. Recently, one of the carriers (e.g. channel 115) which they use to send FOX and PBS was modified. I'm not sure I fully understand what happened,...

    [mythbuntu] Re: How to improve samba server performance

    Thanks for your reply. The thread you linked discusses CIFSMaxBufSize which I understand is a parameter in the client. In my case, Ubuntu is the server and Windows 7 is the client. I tried to find...
