    OK, I think I found the problem:

    add in [global] section

    netbios name = machine_name

    and restart

    Open the file /etc/samba/smb.conf:
    sudo gedit /etc/samba/smb.conf

    Uncomment the following line (remove the semicolon)
    ; name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast

    save and restart samba...
