  8. [ubuntu] Re: [HOWTO] Fix common Gnome 3 install issues in 11.04

Thanks slooksterpsv - your method gave me the clue to solve my problem. Instead of making a new file in ~/.config/autostart as you suggested, I deleted compiz-1.desktop from that folder. Then on...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: [HOWTO] Fix common Gnome 3 install issues in 11.04

I've done some research on why this proposed method of installation fails to work on my laptop (Thinkpad T-410).

I reinstalled gnome3 as in the first post here from an essentially fresh install...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: [HOWTO] Fix common Gnome 3 install issues in 11.04

As I said running from Natty, and in a bash shell, I followed the instructions to the letter. That included the first instruction, namely,

    gksudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3

    I...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: [HOWTO] Fix common Gnome 3 install issues in 11.04

  12. [ubuntu] Re: Random mouse button problems in Thinkpad T410

Just to wrap this up - it was a hardware fault which Lenovo fixed by replacing the keyboard. The laptop is under a year old btw and the Lenovo engineer who fixed it claimed that the problem was due...

[ubuntu] Re: Sending Laptop into Lenovo?

I have been running Lenovo/IBM laptops with only Linux installed for about 6 years. I have had new motherboards, new hard drives, new screens. On no occasion was there a problem.

[kde] Re: Set an application to load at startup?

What aspect of compiz do you need that's not in kwin? Running something that's so fundamentally gnome in kde sounds like asking for trouble.

[kde] Re: Set an application to load at startup?

I assume you really want compiz? Why not use kwin which is pretty good - not quite all of the bells and whistles of compiz but has all I need.

[kde] Re: Set an application to load at startup?

System Settings > Advanced > Autostart >Add Program

Then insert the path of the program.

Personally I use the gnome network manager rather than the kde one so I just type in "nm-applet".
