Any experiences on using this and the brain **** scheduler together, or are they mutually exclusive?

Re: Post your Lucid bootcharts or boot times!

-preempt kernel seems to initialize nearly a second faster than non-preempt on my machine. There's always some variation to the time it takes to init cpu, though.

    The default cfq scheduler adds...

    Re: Linux 2.6.33 Kernel Released

I read somewhere that it was already decided to use .32 in Lucid. Unfortunately, I guess.

Re: I know its late but, kill nautilus!

Nautilus opens into the home folder in about 0.5 seconds. The home folder is in its fresh post-install state so there's nothing flashy there. No thumbnails or anything. This happens on a pretty fast...

Re: High RAM usage at boot

That probably includes system cache so it should be ok. You can see the size of the system cache with 'top' (cached). System cache is freed as programs need memory.

Only ati can work on their closed source.

Re: So, any resolution on Firefox fonts yet?

What font issue? For me fonts look slightly different on firefox than on the rest of ubuntu desktop, but the difference is so small that it doesn't matter.

Re: Post your Lucid bootcharts or boot times!

According to your chart the machine begins to idle at around 30 seconds. That's your actual boot time.

Re: Lucid Lynx wishlist from regular guy

Funny. My eyes are telling me that Windows has equal if not worse font rendering than Ubuntu. Both use sub-pixel antialiasing and I've optimized the settings. Maybe it's just up to personal...
  15. Re: Lucid-GRUB2 goes to "tiny fonts" during boot. This is annoying.

You can disable kernel mode setting, i.e. append nomodeset to kernel command line.

I'd like to set script Hz to display Hz to get smoother animation. Is it possible by using script alone?

Invaluable feature? Why? Do you adjust the volume so often? If so, why? I'm interested in what makes this such an important feature for you.

Re: Kernel 2.6.33 in Lucid already.

Radeon KMS doesn't seem to be working with this 2.6.33-rc1, at least for rv770. Mode isn't set during boot until X, and when X sets(?) the mode, booting hangs. Keyboard responds... I switch vconsole,...

    Re: update-grub takes ages

On my system grub and os reside on the same physical disk. So even in that case update-grub can be very slow. I haven't had any other problems with grub, though.
