menu by unchecking
"Menus have icons" &
icons from buttons by "gconf - Desktop - Interface - Buttons have icons"

Just disable 'xinerama' in xorg.conf! At least it works for me. No errors now.

I have been using ubuntu gnu/linux for the past 4 years & even though this may sound rude I would dump linux the first thing if there was no terminal. Why do you even bother commenting...
Check the liveCD integrity first, may be it damaged!
Press F6 on liveCD menu and remove quiet & splash.
This should at least help you know where the liveCD gets stuck on your system.
