[ubuntu] Re: Folders and permissions shared on one PC

Sorry, I was unclear on this - the other user should not be able to access my home directory. I think by default it's possible, which was surprising to me.

[ubuntu] Folders and permissions shared on one PC

I never had to work with permissions in Ubuntu, so I'm getting grey hair here...

I have two users on a PC. I want to make a shared folder, where I can put files and where the other user can access...

    Hi folks,

This is still happening on this same PC... I haven't been able to figure out why it's freezing.

[ubuntu] Re: Slow starting of apps in fresh 18.04 install

It really looks like the slow start up happens every time the computer is restarted.

    Like this:

    @ThinkPad-E540:~$ time gnome-calculator

    real 0m6,010s
    user 0m0,312s

[ubuntu] Re: Slow starting of apps in fresh 18.04 install

    Ok, good to know.

So I could just remove these and reinstall through apt-get or Software center?

Probably I would mess up the system if I remove these, though...

[ubuntu] Re: Slow starting of apps in fresh 18.04 install

Yes, VLC and Spotify are Snap.

I'll change that, probably it helps.

These other entries were installed by default, so I guess better to leave them alone.

Memory usage seems to be at around 20-25%, 2 GB out of 7,5, no swap at all.

[ubuntu] Re: Slow starting of apps in fresh 18.04 install

Ok, thanks, I did not know of "time" command.

Gedit opens fast now, but Spotify is miserable. Probably because of failed load of modules?

[ubuntu] Slow starting of apps in fresh 18.04 install

I did a fresh minimal install of Ubuntu 18.04, and now the apps open very slow when I first open them, even small apps like Gedit and VLC. Spotify takes ages.

Second time around the starting time...
