Hi folks,
I was a longtime Ubuntu user but have recently been using Fedora 16. I just purchased a new laptop (Dell XPS 13) and have the weirdest charging issue I've ever encountered. It's not a...
Alright, I contacted support and you were right: they are very friendly and were very quick to respond. However, there currently doesn't seem to be any way around the problems I'm experiencing so I...
It's an Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX. It works pretty well with most games.

Thanks for the tip. I may do that. I've tried a few other games since I initially tried installing Rome: Total War and literally none of them have worked (even after following the tips & tricks on...
Hmmm....Total War: Rome (Gold) doesn't work at all for me using Crossover...
Hmmm...thanks for taking the time to respond. I will look into all this and report back in a little while. THANKS!
Yes, I'm talking in part about those games that have downloadable tie files, but also about those that don't. Here are two examples:
(1) Rome: Total War (Gold) has a .tie file available but when...
Thanks for the reply and sorry for posting in the wrong spot initially. I'm still confused. I guess the issue is really what happens if a Steam-installed game needs special settings but you just...
Hi folks,
I've been using Wine to run Steam forever and it works passably well. However, there are several games I've been unable to play and so I just downloaded the most recent demo of Crossover...
Bump again. These games are super fun so it would be great if they would work better in WINE!
I had the same idea and have already tried reinstalling Wine twice!
Glad it's working for someone, mrbyran!
I too have added the Wine PPA and have Wine 1.3.3 installed but to no avail.
I hope I'm not forced to purchase the DVD too(!)
Didn't work for me :(
I've had great success with most games that I get working (i.e., if they work, they usually don't break subsequently) but you never can be sure...
Oddly enough, Civilization IV doesn't work anymore either (i.e., since I upgraded to Wine 1.3.3).
Here's the errors I get when I try to run Civ 5:
[EDIT: Looks like others have...
Thanks for the link but sadly I still couldn't get it to work. I installed DirectX and verified that I had all of the things you had in Winecfg.
Weird. Weird especially since the demo worked fine....
Thanks for the screenshot. Unfortunately, the only DirectX latest version I can find is a websetup version that doesn't work in WINE...I'll keep looking for the whole enchilada (i.e., not the...
Well, no, I'm not sure I have all of the proper overrides although I think I do since the demo worked fine. Hopefully someone with the Steam version can list what overrides they have here eventually.
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone was having any luck getting the Steam version of Civilization 5 to run in Wine?
My own experience is that the demo ran almost flawlessly in Wine 1.3.3 out...
Dominions 3! Costs a fortune, relatively speaking, but second to none if you're into that sort of game.
OpenArena is also fun :)
Thanks, that's good to know about $HOME/bin...
You guys are awesome! Thanks, that fixed it!
Hello,
I wanted to change my PATH variable every time I opened a new terminal session so that I could execute some Python scripts from wherever I was. After searching these forums, I learned that...
