I use Ubuntu at work (Software Engineer and DBA) where we mostly develop JEE 6 applications, so we use a whole range of stuff. We deploy to Ubuntu servers too :)
I use it on my home laptop and PC...

I'm having the same problem. Tried gspca and uvcvideo and none of them work.
I get the same.. blue light comes on, but no video in window. Also, go to the preferences and change the resolution....
Mine does this every time. I've tried reinstalling but no joy yet.
Just saving a bit more money to buy my FreeRunner (Openmoko). The thought of ssh'ing to my phone and running apt-get install, sends me giddy :)

It's a shame you say no Java, as that counts out OpenFire. This is awesome. We got ours up and running in a few minutes!

We're having this same problem. I'm sure it's something to do with GDM starting with an NVidia or ATI driver. Anyone else having any luck?
