If you get the following error logged:
RPC: AUTH_GSS upcall timed out.
Please check user daemon is running.
then edit /etc/default/nfs-common to start gssd daemon ...

Perfectly feasible and it does work OK! My LAN shares files via NFS such that each machine is both a server and a client so that it can access all the other (shared) directories from the other...
Open a terminal and enter the following code:
dpkg --get-selections > installed-software
This will produce a text file called "installed-software" listing all installed packages.
So you wanted the full desktop version then? Note that the server version does not have a GUI by default.
These are server packages that are not, AIUI, installed by default with the desktop...
I must agree with this one. ;-)
I have been using Linux for over ten years now and am still discovering new features. My thanks go to BrunoLotse for Ctrl-l.
I must admit to getting a chuckle...
Thanks but now I am really confused. ;-)
If correctly configured, cron should always run a file without an extension. It is only files with an extension that may not run on certain systems.

I still don't understand if removing the .sh extension meant your original script ran correctly with cron. If it did, then by adding the extension back again this could be the cause of some of your...

TBH, I have no need for regular colour printing as, for example, if I wish to print a photo then it is far more cost-effective to take this on a memory card to a local outlet and use their...
I have never understood why people still buy inkjet printers when laser printers are faster, more reliable and are far cheaper to run, even though the initial purchase price is slightly higher. I...

Mariane: I can recommend FireFTP. Just install this Firefox extension, configure your account details and then simply drag and drop files from your PC to the remote server.
Crinkle: You could try FaceFlow - it's browser based so no additional software is needed!
No "big deal" at all. Ubuntu is Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) so you are free to write such an application if you wish.
The rest of us are happy to accept that GNU/Linux is a secure...
Just in case you haven't already discovered that things are different with Linux, I suggest you read this:
Installing Software in Ubuntu
There are several bug reports on this problem. e.g. See Bug #907311
leonardo-ballabeni: You might get useful help on LibreOfficeForum.org
The Ubuntu Desktop Team has a "Mission Statement" that defines usability as "A usable desktop aids the user in their work, but does not give them challenging obstacles."
IMHO, the hoops that SSO...
