Thanks so much and sorry for the late reply!
I think that settles my question.. I'm not sure when I will
buy the ssd (probably when my disk dies); when I'll be back
with feedback.
Thanks!

Actually I just realized that a virtual machine most
probably won't work for me: I need windows for music
production software where it is crucial to have
almost zero latency for your soundcard....
Ok, so after reading your replies and looking around a little
bit, I start re-thinking about moving the dual-boot to an
SSD and in fact trying to have a native installation of XP on
the SSD.
I...
Thanks! I'll look that up..
Thanks.. Hmm, I think that means that i'll have to do some reading cause I don't understand many things here.
To make it short, does that mean that it will be...
Hi all,
I think my hard disk is going to die sooner or later
(it makes some clicking sounds every now and then
since several months ago).
On another note, I need to format. All this suggest ...
It's been a long time since my last post but the
problem is not yet solved.. Apparently the computer
is not under a proxy and I get a different error
message now (again, this is not my computer...
A proxy server? Hmmm, reading the errors again I guess that
makes sense! :S This is not my computer so I'll have to ask
to confirm but it seems this is what I need..
Thanks!
Hi all,
I have a desktop with 11.04 (Natty) on. This particular
one hasn't been updated since more than a year. I now
run synaptic, "mark all upgrades" and after I click
"apply" I get the...
Edit: I just realized that this is not the right place to post this thread..
Please ignore, I will post it elsewhere.

Hi all,
I have a friend who is using Windows 7 home premium and needs some remote help every now and then. It would be extremely helpful for us to be able to set some remote desktop connection...
I sort of solved the problem: I created another user
and logged in again as this user.. Everything worked
perfectly..
So, I'll just change the user, it seems that this is
a better and faster...
Thanks, but I don't think so.. I'm the owner of everything
under $HOME.. I did that and didn't change anything..
Any other ideas?
Now I have the same problem with other applications as well!
For instance gpodder:
jorge@Office-Desktop:~$ gpodder
Bus error
jorge@Office-Desktop:~$
..but again "sudo gpodder" will fire...
I get this:
jorge@Office-Desktop:~$ ps ax | grep dbus
632 ? Ss 0:00 dbus-daemon --system --fork --activation=upstart
971 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/ssh-agent...
How can I check if dbus runs properly, actually?
No, I really don't think that is the case; the dbus package
is installed anyway..
The funny thing (which I just realized) is that all of them
start properly if I run them as root (except exaile...
Yup, you could do that quickly from the command line.
You could do something like:
find . -name tn -exec rm -rf {} \;
From within the folder where your tn files are (recursively).
bump
When I do that, my file manager opens and then i can navigate wherever I want.

This one is for macs, so it may not work:

Here, the guy is asking something different, but
somebody says something that may apply to you:...
I pronounce it "Λίνουξ"
Hmmm.. My guess would be that you went to the root's home directory.. If you do "cd $VARIABLEWHICHISNOTSET" where
the last variable is not set, then it's the same as giving
a plain "cd". That would...
Hmm.. Maybe a wine application is not the best one for a sound check! :)
Anyway, just in case, can you open a terminal, start alsamixer,
then press tab (to go to the "capture" settings), then go...
Hmm.. My only guess is that the variables that you
were using are not the same any more when you are
a different user. Maybe $ORACLE_HOME is not set
for root?
So for instance could you do

So, what package in particular?
However (and I'm not sure if I'm missing something)
I'm pretty sure that for instance Exaile and clementine
(my two preferred applications) do not use mono.....
