Thanks, this was really helpful! I've kept meaning to code something like this myself, but you've saved me the trouble! Really appreciate your effort on this one, as I too have had problems with...
Yeah, this script was written at a time when it was pretty hard to find any way of getting this videos, now flash is available for x86 linux though, so it's pretty redundant for me. Truth be told,...
My laptop has native resolution at 1280*800, and I use the 1024*768 for the boot splash without problem. OK, it would be nice to have 1280*800 natively in there, but just to let you know that it's...
To be honest, I would have expected this to run on kde if you have the right gnome libraries installed.
I just used that and it worked. It would seem to be a good idea to add it to your next version!
Idea!
If they do not match - try using the "-k" option. I've just tried, but am too busy to restart at the moment.
i.e.
sudo update-initramfs -k $(uname -r) -u
That sounds similar to the bug I had (and wasn't able to solve). I don't remember the new one flashing up briefly on bootup though.
Are you using a laptop? What is the native resolution etc? ...
Yeah, I know that gnome deliberately avoids "apply" buttons. I suppose there is no logical way to do anything else. Perhaps when you click "close" a popup saying "please be patient whilst SUM...
OK, symlinks updated when installing the MCE Usplash. So that works just nicely now (if there was a problem before at your end it is fixed with 9.9 version).
As for the initramfs update - it only...
Ok, after an extensive series of tests and boots I've deduced that it something to do with the kernels. If I select the first entry (the one I use) I don't get the selected usplash, but if I use the...
I ran that command and rebooted, but no luck. I've just run the diagnostics you told me to again though, and the symlinks HAVE updated. I'll try rebooting after doing a sudo update-initramfs -u
...
Ok, thanks!
No.
$ sudo update-alternatives --config usplash-artwork.so

There is only 1 program which provides usplash-artwork.so
(/usr/lib/usplash/usplash-theme-ubuntu.so). Nothing to...
I followed your instructions, and SUM is not retaining the change of Usplash, when closed and reopened it reverts back to the default ubuntu one.
ls -l /usr/lib/usplash/
total 7804...
I did install it via SUM. If you want any more information to help you troubleshoot it, please ask!
Sorry, I know that swap partitions don't get fsck'd, didn't mean to give that impression. I'll have a look at the source code and see if I can make a patch myself to do what I want (and then give it...
Is it possible to get this to look after several partitions? I'm sure it is, but at the moment even though I know I have 3 ext3 partitions (and one swap), it just tells me I have 13 mounts until next...
It may be worth pointing out that the grub images are located in /boot/grub/splashimages as not all may know (perhaps also pointing out that they need to be located on the same partition as the MBR...
Very nifty little application. It might be an idea to throw in a default image and usplash theme just to get people started.
I remember ages ago playing around with this (couldn't get it to work for whatever reason). However, I do remember that the module was there, it was jut REALLY well hidden. Even when I knew where...
For those who are having trouble applying this patch what you need to do is get the THREE files that are linked to on the gentoo page and apply them in order. Also, there are text bits at the start...
Basically, this is just to gather, and update, the script I put HERE. I was prompted to make this How-To after receiving an email from a user who wanted me to make a GUI for it, so I did.
YouTube...
The pulsate switch doesn't seem to do anything for me. I presume it's supposed to make the orange bars switch left and right repeatedly, but nothing happens; there's no difference when I apply...
Well, thanks, that worked. I don't understand why my way didn't work though...
Thanks again though! Pity about the --progress bar though, but it works as a decent enough place holder at the...
