Wish I could help but I'm not very knowledgeable about power issues. This appears to be a major weak spot in Ubuntu and I hope the developers can address it soon. Since I rarely run my laptop on...
Thanks for the tips. I reduced swappiness to 1 and directed the browser cache to a tmpfs (ram). The purpose being to reduce small-file writes to the SSD which is what reduces their lifespan.

I have the 3820T-7459 (no bluetooth, Core i3-370M CPU and Intel HD only).
I immediately replaced the wireless card with an Intel 6200 and replaced the HDD with a Corsair Nova 128GB SSD.
Amazing...
@IcarusR:
Thanks for the reply and links. I'm told the discard flag needs to be set to enable TRIM for the SSD which is built into the new kernel. I'm curious why the installer didn't set that flag...
I just installed the 10.10 RC on my Acer 1830T which has an Intel X25-M 80GB (generation 2) SSD in it. It seems to be working well, but I need to know how to alter my "fstab" file correctly to work...
I have the 1830T-3721 with ALPS, Broadcom Wi-Fi and Atheros AR8151 ethernet.
I immediately ditched the Broadcom card and replaced it with an Intel 6200. Downloaded and installed Atheros ethernet...
The "ifconfig wlan0 up" will turn on my wireless light but it does NOT enable wireless in Network Manager. I still have to right-click the icon and enable wireless manually. It's a silly and...
@soundcheck: Thanks so much for the script on page 1. Worked perfectly for me. Sound thru my earbuds now! Yay!
I'd give you a medal if I had one. (Makes me wonder what's wrong with Canonical...
Worked for me too. The guy that wrote that script deserves a medal!
NONE of the solutions listed in this thread works for me and I have an Intel Advanced-N 6200 card which is natively supported in the kernel. This isn't a driver issue -- it is a bug in Network...

Any update for this for Maverick?
Just wondering....
For anyone getting an Intel SSD:
There is a very informative video HERE which you should watch. This site uses "activeX controls". I watched it in Windows 7 and had to use Internet Explorer (ugh!)...
I've seen a lot of warnings about partition alignment. Did you create your partition(s) with gparted and uncheck the "round to cylinder" box?
The Arch thread is very helpful but any...
Thanks. There is another thread in the Hardware & Laptops section that I will be posting my SSD experience in... Here
If I can find some good Linux disk benchmarking software, I'll post results,...
"l3dx" is right, there are many things to check, tweak and set properly to get the full performance and longevity from an SSD. Considering how expensive they are, per GB, we want them to last as...
Thanks! What about swappiness? Would you recommend setting that to "0" (I have 4GB RAM)? And the ramdrive/temp files tweak? Would that cut down on a lot of writes?
I will be receiving my new Intel X25M G2 80GB SSD in a couple of days. It supposedly already has the latest firmware installed.
A comprehensive guide for Lucid installation and tweaks would be...
I got it working... I honestly don't know how -- I was trying several angles of attack at once. But it's working now. Thanks for the reply. Now if I can only get the Atheros AR8151 ethernet...
Okay, I followed the instructions at the link below:
Install driver from USB drive
If I boot from my Lucid LiveCD on the flash drive I can install the Broadcom wi-fi driver and can use it. But...
This worked for me:
Atheros AR8151 Fix
Follow chili555's directions.
Anyone know how to get the "Thinkpad b/g/n" card working in Lucid? I'm using the AMD64 version. I think it is actually a RealTek card.
I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64 and my wireless isn't working. It's the "Thinkpad b/g/n" card which I think is actually a RealTek card, but I'm not sure. It seems to connect for a short time and...
Thanks for the reply and explanation. I probably would never have found that solution without your help. I have the PAE kernel installed now and System Monitor is reporting 3.8 GB.
I may try the...
I have installed 10.04 several times on my laptop and I get inconsistent reports from System Monitor about how much RAM I have (4 GB). I'm installing 32-bit Lucid only. On some installs System...
