[ubuntu] Re: 10.4 LTS Logout sound won't play

The underlying problem is that Gnome cannot execute scripts at logout, the module for it is completely missing.

Not only the logout sound cannot be played, but administrators cannot have their...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: installing latest 64bit adobe flash on 9.10 for chrome browser

The latest December beta from Adobe works really well and uses just 30% CPU. I don't remember the exact number for the previous one but it was about twice as much. Full screen also works smoothly...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Audio/Webcam/Battery problems with Acer Aspire 5930G and Ubuntu 9.04

Update: I contacted the alsa developers and they have modified the quirk for the 5930g according to my findings, so starting from 1.0.22 it should work without manually specifying any option. Thanks...
  4. Re: I love Ubuntu - but here's a note to Mark Shuttleworth

If it's a hardware support problem, chances are that it would be just the same with other distributions, the drivers in the linux kernel are the same for all.

But ubuntu gets much more attention...

Linking to an article from a Fedora and formerly Mandriva marketing person to prove how Ubuntu sucks, congratulations. This stuff is getting lamer and lamer every day.

  6. [ubuntu] Re: Audio/Webcam/Battery problems with Acer Aspire 5930G and Ubuntu 9.04

Well I have no bugs affecting me with Karmic. Actually, it is giving me the almost perfect unix experience with this machine. I see two differences between my setup and yours though: I use 64bit and...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Audio/Webcam/Battery problems with Acer Aspire 5930G and Ubuntu 9.04

Just add it at the end of the file. But if you're still on Jaunty you need to either upgrade to Karmic or update your alsa to 1.0.20 manually. Alsa 1.0.18 does not support our laptop at all.
  8. [ubuntu] Re: Audio/Webcam/Battery problems with Acer Aspire 5930G and Ubuntu 9.04

I forgot to mention that for the webcam you might want to decrease the default resolution in the cheese preferences, to 640x480 for example, and use the highest setting for still pictures.
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Audio/Webcam/Battery problems with Acer Aspire 5930G and Ubuntu 9.04

    Hi,

I just found, after months of poking around, that the alsa option that works for the 5930g is model=acer-aspire-6530g, don't ask me why.

So (for the newbies) I changed the last line of the...

    [ubuntu] Re: shutdown sound

    Hi
As long as this bug is not closed the logout sound is not implemented. People interested in its implementation should tick the "this bug affects me too" option in that bug, so that the developers...
