I am a little surprised though that ubuntu doesn't have the "auto hide the top bar" option feature built in to it...
Hi Guys! Nice to be back :D
Well, i'd only be running it live session (off the dvd i am going to burn)...so i wouldn't be able to check that optional box for codecs when you install...
So, where...
I've been away from Ubuntu and linux for quite some time (currently running windows 10 which i like a lot)...I wanted to take a peak at how ubuntu has been coming along and look at 18.04 LTS (i...
Wayland is standard now, isn't it?...Actually, why would you need tweak to get the extension...when I watched the video of 17.10 that someone on you tube made, he showed there was a section on Ubuntu...
So, then in wayland, the extension to hide the top panel would not work, I take it?
I was watching a video about 17.10 and I saw that you can change the location of the (I will call it) dock to bottom or to the right if you wish and also activate the auto-hide...
However, I didn't...
Great...just what I wanted to hear ;)
As I think of other possible questions..i will post to this thread...
I have been away from Ubuntu for some time...was considering installing again...I see as of 17.10 there are big changes...no more unity and gnome3 desktop instead...
I was wondering If you can...
Yes, take it from a former major ubuntu and linux mint user (who didn't like previous versions of windows and after trying each for awhile always ended coming back to linux)...Windows 10 is a VERY...
@dragonbite: great comparison...i think part of the reason i like windows 10 so much is because it has a very modern interface (unlike earlier versions) and since they got rid of metro from windows 8...
I don't use any pay for apps on windows...in fact, have many fine apps installed that are absolutely free (which is most of them) also, windows mail works very nice...could never really find a mail...
@guber2: again...it's no worse then when you use yahoo or google...frankly, i don't even notice anything...also, you can control quite a bit in the privacy settings...The rest (as i mentioned) helps...
@vasa1: yes, your linked article explains it sooo much better...:) Wish i had seen it first (rather than softpedia's)...
And people always bring up privacy issues of windows 10 but frankly, Microsoft is not interested on what music or video files i have on my computer or monitoring my e-mail, etc...They are only...
@vasa1: Yeah, that is the confusing part for me...they don't really explain if they mean a full blown version of ubuntu or just the stuff that a developer might use for linux related development...
LOL...I knew that would shake things up here :)
yep...Ubuntu will be an installable app in the windows 10 store...:D
By the way, the devices that come with windows 10s (their version of...
Don't fall off your chairs, but after the next Windows 10 upgrade in the fall, guess what is going to be available to install in the "windows store"? (that's where you get apps in windows 10):...
@Sorry TJ but i have to totally disagree...The telemetry as you call it is only used to improve the system not to spy on you...that, along with the windows insider program, help to greatly improve...
One of the major innovations microsoft has done is to bring in customers feedback and input into improving the windows operating system, and to greatly improve the reliability...This came through...
@Richard: well, with only about 2% total globally for ubuntu and linux on the desktop (and i have been using ubuntu since 2009 so that is what 8 years) somehow, i don't see it becoming the major...
@mikodo: yes, that is true...however, windows is more versatile in many aspects...for example: most apps self-update, you will often find apps that work better that are only available for windows and...
@Jay: microsoft could care less about the photos on your computer...the only data they are interested in is the kind that tells them how various parts of windows 10 is functioning, so they can...
Actually, as of Windows 10, it IS kind of a rolling release...aside from getting the cumulative updates once per month (which fix bugs and improve stability) there is a major build upgrade that will...
I did the same myself, after upgrading from windows 7 to windows 10, at that point you have a digital entitlement, so i was free to do a nice CLEAN install, and a few problems i had when i upgraded...
I've been using Windows 10 since it was available and find it to be very reliable and pretty bug free and seems to keep getting better as it gets updated...The auto updates for me have been very...
