    [ubuntu] Mediatomb notplaying videos

A friend has a ubuntu box with mediatomb installed that he uses to stream video to his directv. When he upgraded to 11.10 however this stopped working.

I had him send me the logs and there were a...

[kubuntu] Re: Natty + KDE + Nvidia = lockups

I have noticed that in my case the lockups mostly (perhaps only) occur when resizing windows in a multimonitor configuration. Maximizing and restoring work fine, but when I try and manually resize a...

[ubuntu] Re: Remote Virt-Manager connection to KVM host

It might not be the solution you are looking for but you might try adding the kvm and libvirtd groups to a normal user and using that user to connect. I tend to dislike solutions that involve...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: must restart shorewall after server + KVM boots

I realize this is a bit old but for posterity sake....

The problem, and reason you are needing to restart shorewall, is that you are using detect on virbr0 but virbr0 is not up when shorewall...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: KVM/Livirt failing to start vm's after upgrade to linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic

It has not been logged as a bug yet as far as I can see. Since this bug directly effects kvm I am guessing it effects cloud install as well. I expect that it will get noticed fairly quickly if that...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: KVM/Livirt failing to start vm's after upgrade to linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic

The pci_add_option_rom: failed to find romfile "pxe-rtl8139.bin" is a red herring. Adding the kvm-pxe package gets rid of that message but the VMs still do not start. I am not sure what is causing...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: KVM/Livirt failing to start vm's after upgrade to linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic

This is happening to me as well. I have not tried to debug it much, came here to see if anyone else has the same problem. A quick search implies that is is a problem with libvirt.

    [ubuntu] Re: OpenSSH

    1) it means your host name is not recognized by the client. This really is not a ssh issue. If you can ping the hostname ssh will work too. (you could add it to /etc/hosts if it is an internal...
  9. [all variants] Re: Looking for feedback on IBM/Lenova laptops

I have Kubuntu Lucid on my X200 Tablet with no difficulties that I can remember and Karmic before that (and a string of other Thinkpads over the last 6-7 years). Generally the Thinkpad line works...

[SOLVED] Re: TwinView Forces Screen Overlap

A google for the maximum resolution of your card shows it to be 3840 x 2400. Am I missing something?

Additionally, I went to newegg and checked the maximum resolution on both Nvidia Quadro FX...
  11. [kubuntu] Re: Auto resize window when moved to the flanks of screen

Works as advertised in Kubuntu Lucid.
  12. [kubuntu] Re: How do I remove the plasma icon in the upper-right hand corner?!?!

    https://launchpad.net/~samrog131/+archive/ppa

This ppa has the, unfortunately named, "I hate the Cashew" widget (the one referred to above). It removes the cashew, does not hide it. KDE, for...

Re: How is Kubuntu Lucid RC for you?

Kubuntu Lucid has done surprisingly well for me so far. Somewhere in the betas I had a problem where certain hotkeys would stop working after a few dozen uses but that appears to be solved. ...

I too regret your experience but do not share it. I have Kubuntu Lucid running on 2 of my laptops and have little to complain on them for any reason and no lockups. Have you checked your logs to...

    Re: ssd?

Block alignment was definitely of use in first generation SSDs. For 2d generation SSDs such, as the current Intel X-25Ms, the benefit is more debatable however. Aligning partitions to erase...

[SOLVED] Re: boot issues after todays update.

I have been having this problem as well. I am beginning to suspect it is a event dependency problem with upstart and kdm.

    1) gdm works fine
    2) with kdm I get the "starting in low resolution"...

    [ubuntu] Re: Remote Desktop

The answer to some extent will depend on how technical you are. IMHO the best remote admin tool is ssh. It is (obviously) command line but it is the best tool for the job. With "ssh -X" you can...

[ubuntu] Re: [Karmic] Installing KDE on-top-of Gnome

I have done it on two systems with Karmic and managed to get everything stable. I would recommend a fresh install of Kubuntu however if you primarily want to use KDE.
