I am having similar issues, I've gotten it to the stage where the gnome-tweak-tool identifies that there are valid extensions, but wont let me turn them on, it gives me an "error loading extension"...

If you want to build a basic site, id suggest a Wordpress, this way you get basic functionality without having to learn html from scratch, and you can learn as you need.
