I need to mount a partition on startup and have it as writeable. How do I do this?

so I accidentally my Ubuntu partition, which somehow killed GRUB. Now when I turn on my computer, even though I have verified that the HDD is the last thing on the boot order, it will still go...

when It asks for the login, and I put in my username and password, It says login incorrect

I'm going to go for a reinstall and see if that fixes it.

It might be that my apt is not properly configured, as I tried to install unzip [sudo apt-get install unzip]. How would I fix my apt?

When I enter

sudo apt-get install python-software-properties
Into my Ubuntu Server 12.04 (Physical Computer, not a VM), it reports:

Package python-software-properties is not available, but is...

No problem. The more I know about doing things in Linux the better.

Server is now working niceley.

When I enter

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
It returns:

sudo: add-apt-repository: command not found

am I missing something?

Is there a way to install Java7 on Ubuntu Server 12.04? The reason I want it installed is to run a Minecraft Server with minimal requirements.
