    I suggest learning C by implementing some basic algorithms. You can find a great deal of books to guide you through. Or perhaps Python, I read it's quite easy to learn.

    The files that start with a dot (".") are hidden files. Press Ctrl-H in Nautilus to show hidden files and you should be able to find .gnome2
