I use LMDE as my primary OS. It's next update pack will be based on testing (Jessie). It's a stable enough OS and as long as Mint stick with it, it will never need a re-install. Suits me.

It should be, it's based on Ubuntu, if you use Zorin 6 it's based on 12.04, so should be rock solid.
I have Linux Lite which is XFCE, Ubuntu based, very good it is too.
Re-cap: LMDE (Cinnamon) #! ( Open Box) Linux Lite (XFCE) Ubuntu (Unity) and Debian 7 (Gnome Classic and KDE).
So five distros and...
I'll try that, thanks. Do I have to do this from the last distro installed - the last distro to install and configure Grub? Which in my case is Debian Wheezy.
Edit: Thanks sudodus, I followed your...
Tried it, simply refuses to work
Won't work for me, tried it but to no avail. Not to worry.
Thanks for that, really useful.
Tried it with LMDE, no luck though, maybe I should try from another os.
I guess I'll keep the partitions then. Just one thing, how do I edit Grub to select a default os so my wife doesn't have to navigate the minefield to get to LMDE that she has started to use.
Please help me. I am an incurable distro hopper since trying linux for the first time last October.
I use, primarily, a computer with 5 distros on it, (LMDE Cinnamon, #!, Linux Lite, Ubuntu...
Try Linux Mint 13 KDE, based on Ubuntu / Kubuntu 12.04, but different. Or very different is CrunchBang #!
Again, Puppy would do well on that.
Good luck! A hard task ahead, hope it works out.
I think you missed my point, and I never said Debian was difficult.
What I am trying to say is that anyone coming straight from Windows will be expecting or hoping that everything "just works" as...
It's a pity that some distros have to be "difficult". After all what is a computer OS for ultimately? To actually do stuff with, like office type work, gaming, web browsing, HTPC et al? If so then it...
They do. I downloaded the iso with non-free included.

Did you not check the link and actually see the live/install dvds? And a separate list with non-free firmwares included?
The Gnome live dvd only works in fallback mode for me, but the KDE version works ok. Thinking of wiping Ubuntu 12.04.2 for it (gasps of horror!!)
There is a live dvd available now here http://live.Debian.net
Mine are as follows:
Acer Aspire 5535 / Windows Vista Home Basic 32 bit / LM 13 KDE 64 bit dual boot
HP Pavillion DV5 1111EA / LMDE Cinnamon 64 bit / Ubuntu 12.04.2 32 bit dual boot
Puppy...
I've decided to be happy with what I have, rather than risking a lost Windows install for the sake of experimentation.
Thanks for your thoughts and helpful advice. Since I started tinkering with...
Here is a screenshot of my laptop hdd.
Is it possible to simply add a third os to this laptop?
Ubuntu 12.04, #! and Linux Lite are strong contenders.
I was thinking of letting Ubuntu simply fit...
Try Linux Lite, if it will boot from a dvd. I ended up installing Linux Mint 13 Mate from a cd sized iso because my old Presario 2138EA refused to boot from dvd or usb.
Other options would be Bhodi...
I have the same problem with Kubuntu 12.04.2, so I will watch for replies too.
Update, I wiped Ubuntu and installed Kubuntu, problem solved. Now how do I get the sound working over HDMI?
