I have the exact same problem, but got into the mess in a slightly different way. Having realised /boot was full I used a live cd to boot the machine, mounted /boot and used sudo nautilus to browse...
For an ipod (especially ipod touch or iphone) there is really no substitute for itunes.
install virtualbox, put a copy of windows xp on it and install itunes.
The command to start virtualbox in terminal is case sensitive.
Try typing VirtualBox at the command prompt.
I have a properly installed working virtualbox. If I get the capitalisation wrong at...
I'd love to go completely linux. Its great for stuff that is done solo but has a long way to go to enable proper collaberative working.
For my personal pc I have XP running in virtualbox simply to...
I've got a problem with Virtualbox since upgrading to 9.10. The modules kvm-intel and kvm are running and prevent virtualbox from starting a VM. I've added the lines

Sorry, finger trouble, I should have said a full install to an ext3 partition, the data on the drive remains in a fat32 partition so that it can be read from a windows machine.
For the record, I did eventually get this to work, but with a full install to a fat 32 partition on the WD drive.
I did need to fiddle around a little, in particular the IBM T60 I'm using needed a...
Having thought that the problem had gone away, it reappeared again next re-boot. Clearly removing qemu was not the full answer, something else is triggering KVM.
In terminal the following is...
The issue is now resolved. Somewhere along the line the package qemu_kvm was installed.
I can only assume this happened somewhere in the upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic.
following the command:...
I have today updated from ubuntu Jaunty to Karmic.
Sun Virtualbox no longer works; Error message as follows appears each time i try to start windows xp from within virtualbox:

Have now solved this by doing a full install to the USB rather than a live session. Works like magic!
Shouldn't virtualbox use the network / internet connection of the host windows system (ie the blackberry) to provide connection to ubuntu?
I'm not sure why the virtual machine would ever need an...
My latest attempt to overcome the problem is virtualbox. running xp through that with itunes installed. I have virtualbox running, but am yet to install itunes. At the moment performance of...
Agree, nothing works like itunes!
I had I tunes 8 on my windows PC, this doesnt work at all in Wine.
I've tried all the combinations above, but with only partial success. The worst problem is...
Personally, I use FSPOT, but the way this sorts photos into directories by month and day I find annoying, particularly as I store all my pics on external drives so they can be accessed by Windows...
Kevbert is quite right on the full install, it will destroy the usb eventually by writing to it too often, the persistent live install gets around this and allows apps to be installed. I've not yet...
I've created a USB stick for use on my lenovo T60 work laptop, The supplied graphics driver works to an extent, however on changing the appearance preferences to a higher level, intrepid downloaded...
Having exactly the same problem. I'm using Intrepid on a USB stick so I can boot my work laptop into linux to do personal stuff. The persistent idea works fine (I even have virtualbox installed on...
Not sure that the persistent install gets over your issue with the live session.
You can do a full linux install to the stick from the cd. Remove your hard drive, plug in the empty usb, then do a...
Thanks for the tip, really like this as a method of setting up a live USB.
One problem though, despite now having a Ubuntu live distro on the my passport drive, and the boot sequence correct in...
I'm interested in the exact same question, having just acquired a 320gb my passport drive and loaded it with lots of data. I'm using this to carry personal stuff around for use on my company laptop...
