    [ubuntu] Re: some sites won't open

    Maybe a DNS issue? All I can think of is try 8.8.8.8 (Google's free DNS) as your DNS server and see if it works better... To change DNS server, add this line to /etc/resolv.conf:

    [ubuntu] Re: GRUB not loading Win7

    I don't really know about that bootinfoscript... But if you post a copy of /boot/grub/grub.cfg, I can check it out and see if there's anything wrong with it.

    If that file doesn't exist, then grub2...

    Yep. You're using grub2 right? Just remove the entry from /boot/grub/grub.cfg, near the bottom of the file... it starts with menuentry and ends with }

    This would be undone once you ran grub-update...

    [ubuntu] Re: want to buy external hard drive

    Yeah, it's plug & play. In Ubuntu it should even mount the disk and pop up a file manager window. It's probably formatted ntfs by default, but you can reformat it to ext(2,3,4) with mkfs.ext(#).
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Back up everything, then install on new system?

    Yes, in fact it would only work with 32 -> 64, not the other way around. Since a 64-bit processor is backwards compatible with 32-bit stuff.

    There might be a few problems with hardware differences...

    [ubuntu] Re: unable to mount volume

    Well, you kind of already did, here:

    If it says UUID= instead of /dev/whatever then you're using uuid.

    Also Ubuntu 10.04 uses UUID's by default, so you shouldn't have to do anything.
