    problem solved

    1) create an empty /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1
    2) then remove the nvidia-glx as before
    3) delete xorg.conf
    4) run nvidia-xconfig
    5) restart comp (not only x)

    Correction: nvidia-glx-new doesnt seem to be installed either. It said so first in the synaptic that it was. Later I tried to reach nvidia-xconfig by console, and then got the message that it wasnt...
