  1. [ubuntu] Re: kern.log and syslog flooded with wlan3 messages

You did say Firestarter was merely a frontend and as such simply turns the firewall on or off. I'm thinking it uses a command line to do it and probably the command line ends up turning on all that...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: kern.log and syslog flooded with wlan3 messages

Holy ^#@* ian-weisser. You are a genius. I turned off the firewall using Firestarter and the messages stopped. Now I'd like to re-start the firewall but I don't know where to set the preferences...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: kern.log and syslog flooded with wlan3 messages

Thank you ian-weisser. So, how do I turn it all off? I have another Ubuntu 11.04 partition which is a clone of this one. In both of these partitions I recently re-compiled my wireless driver to...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: kern.log and syslog flooded with wlan3 messages

Alrighty, here is the iptables. Can anyone see how this relates to the gazillion log records that I sampled at the beginning of this thread? Let's hope no one can use this to hack my computer!

  6. [ubuntu] Re: kern.log and syslog flooded with wlan3 messages

I sniffed the packets for a bit, and I did the netstat that you showed. I found a lot of the activity is Plex Media Server broadcasting, and then all the DLNA devices on our home network answering...
  7. [ubuntu] kern.log and syslog flooded with wlan3 messages

These messages keep flooding my logs:

  8. [SOLVED] Re: rtl8192cu driver for Asus USB-N13 limited to 150 Mb/Sec and disconnects A LOT!

I repeated the process on the Linux Mint, which is based on Ubuntu 12.04 and it worked there too. Thanks chili555.:)

So far I'll say this is a success. I wonder why Ubuntu people (Canonical)...
  9. [SOLVED] Re: rtl8192cu driver for Asus USB-N13 limited to 150 Mb/Sec and disconnects A LOT!

chili555, thank you for the help. I found out why the install failed previously. This time I followed your steps ACCURATELY and it all worked! The old driver is gone; the new driver is IN!

  10. [SOLVED] Re: rtl8192cu driver for Asus USB-N13 limited to 150 Mb/Sec and disconnects A LOT!

Forgot to mention it in the original post; yes I did blacklist them as part of the process I described. It does not work. There must some more parts to it that need to be uninstalled.

    I saw you,...
  11. [SOLVED] rtl8192cu driver for Asus USB-N13 limited to 150 Mb/Sec and disconnects A LOT!

Yes, something like this has been posted a lot before. I have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. The driver that comes packaged with the distro is defective. It can connect only at half-speed (150) with weak...

  14. [SOLVED] Re: partitions created by gparted not recognized in other OS (Windows)

Marking this as solved. Win XP 32-bit will never see this disk. Also, any win-64-bit could only SEE the partitions; never boot from them.

My Win7 and Win8 64-bit have no problem seeing them and...
  15. [SOLVED] Re: partitions created by gparted not recognized in other OS (Windoze)

I read on Microsoft.com that WinXP Home will be OK with GPT disk, but it doesn't say whether or not it has to 64-bit. I checked on gparted docs and it should straight-forward to set up the gpt disk....

  17. [SOLVED] Re: partitions created by gparted not recognized in other OS (Windoze)

[SOLVED] Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR 1212 capture

Yes, the specs say 1080i. But it captures 60 fps, in both 480p and 1080i. Better remember the 1080i thing when building a Blu-ray disc. If not, you'll get a surprise.
