boot from live cd and type update-grub
i compiled the linux 2.6.24 kernel and booted it.....but every time i get the same error message
alert! dev/disk/by-uuid/.............doesnt exist dropping to shell...
im using intrepid...
can any one help me out...stuck with this for a long time..and i need the kernel working very badly...
even if your are logged in as the admin certain actions require you to key in your password...try it in terminal with the prefix sudo (super user privilege)
i downloaded the kernel from "kernel.org"....i have previously installed kernels but didnt get such messages...can you tell me how to fix this???
gdm as root is not a command....it means you have to type "gdm" as the root...here is how
type
sudo su
type the password when asked
then type
i compiled and installed the kernel 2.6.24...but when i boot i get the message
"cannot find /lib/modules/linux-2.6.24"
at boot along with
"cannot find /lib/modules/linux-2.6.24\temp.dep"
...
try the gdm command as the root....it is the graphical desktop manager

i needed to install kernel 2.6.24 for my linux system....i downloaded and installed the kernel...now i need to create the initrd image for the boot....can any one tell me how to create the image for...

if its integrated then its probably one of intel's video adapter which would not display some effects properly....can you tell the name of the adapter???

im using intrepid ibex (32-bit version).the problem is that every time the system is rebooted the previous lan settings get reset.so i need to manually reconfigure the connection every time...how do...

i unwittingly changed the screen resolution to an incompatible type...the entire screen blacked out...how do i change it back???:confused:
