This scanner is perfectly supported under SANE, so all you would need to do is install from the required PPA. Check out the SANE website for details on support.
Looking at the specs for the 165 and 185, I see that apart from GDI, they also have an XPS engine. It seem Konica Minolta, Canon, Minolta, Toshiba and Xerox produced native XPS printers.

If its the Konica Minolta one, then this particular PID is not yet listed in the USB ID database for Konica Minolta VID=132b

What version of SANE are you using, and what version of of the pixma backend? Check man page for sane-pixma to see if MP280 is listed there. If not, your version of SANE is too old. Either install...
Nice to see you are using gutenprint, and that you can print via USB but not over network. So there is no problem with the gutenprint driver, which to me is good news.
A similar problem was reported...
You could check the support on the CVS version of SANE. The Webpage usually lists limitations also if any.
Then you might try contacting the SANE mailing list for detailed answers.
Is there a...
First check that the parallel port modules in the kernel are working (if they are loaded but still not detecting anything then as the previous poster noted, check BIOS).
I don't know what you mean...
Hi Andrew,
I think you must be the person that posted on Usenet a couple of days ago---it would help it you would have pasted the URL of this thread.
Anyhow, the suggestion I gave there earlier...
Hello Neil,
Since I wrote the support for the 8800F in the sane backends code, here are some suggestions:
make sure your sane-backends is new enough to support the Canoscan 8800F. If you are...
Hello,
I'm the current maintainer of the Canon backend in the gutenprint project, and I have an iP4500, so this is my testbed too.
First of all, I agree with you that these "problems" should be...
There are two things to worry about here as far as I can see:
1. If the scanner works in SANE with USB connection, then there is no problem with SANE
2. To use WiFi, there is another protocol, SANE...
Hi, thank you for your support.
About the CP910, this is brand-new really, so any testing is appreciated. Support is basically there in 5.2.10 up to the CP900, but continuing in the development code...
DryChili,
You are a saviour! Excellent information. Many thanks, that was a long-time missing USB ID for us at the gutenprint project.
Could you send also the output of...
Probably "simple scan" uses SANE as a backend, so you would need to install the development version of SANE where the MX420 series is supported (presumably it is not supported in the version shipped...
Your subject states PCL but you describe installing a postscript driver. So what is it you want for this printer?
If pswrite is undefined, you should probably look at why that is, in your version of...
Multi-feed means ADF (automatic document feeder) I think.
You could try SANE, there has been progress debugging the use of this on various Canon all-in-ones in recent weeks,
so perusing the mailing...
Hi,
Clearly the printer is recognized at the USB level, that is good.
So now further information regarding printing would come from the CUPS error log. It has a default size of only 1MiB, so not...
Hi,
Yes, the iX6500 family is supported by gutenprint 5.2.9, and iX6800 family by 5.2.10-pre2.
I think the max paper size is set at about A3, but this can be changed in the code if necessary---if...
Check your path.
The git 1.0.25 should be first because it is in /usr/local/lib which in path should come before /usr/lib.
It is hard to tell what might be wrong with only the current output...
Yes, that is the correct way, no confusion.
I developed the initial driver, but Rolf is now the official maintainer of the pixma backend, and much more capable than I will ever be.
Regards,
Gernot...
I think you should start your own thread: SANE is scanning software, you need something different for printing.
No, gutenprint is a inkjet printer driver, not scanner software.
You should make use of the SANE project for that. Report to their mailing list if something does not work, support might be...
I would suggest for your own enlightenment, to do things in two stages, if this is for the gutenprint driver:
1a. enable debug in the CUPS web interface and then examine the CUPS error log, also...
Christo,
You might as well check your CUPS printing options, since if those are incorrect for color printing, a new driver will not help you. Canon printers do not permit free assignment of all the...
