    Re: Sad day...

The point about never really leaving Linux is a good one. I'm running Ubuntu on all my servers, Ubuntu/KVM for server virtualization, Linux on my Android phone, Ubuntu for my media center, etc. ...

    Re: Back to Windows

I totally agree with this. Maybe I was just lucky, but other than a fakeraid I struggled with once, I haven't had a driver problem with Ubuntu since 12.04. Sleep & hibernate rarely worked, but...

Sorry to report to all here, that I am leaving Ubuntu Desktop to go back to Windows 7.

It's been a long journey since 6.04, and I am better for it, but I need to move on. To make a very long...

Re: Enough with the mobile stuff...

I value Linux a lot, and will stick with Ubuntu Server for many years to come. But in my case, I don't want a "Linux" desktop....I want a "Great" desktop and IMO Canonical/Ubuntu is the only way...

Re: Enough with the mobile stuff...

Mostly certainly am here but only for these reasons:

    1) Ubuntu desktop blows away Windows XP
    2) Ubuntu desktop is better than Windows 7 in some important ways
    3) OSX is just plain irritating

Re: Enough with the mobile stuff...

ok - this kind of stuff gives me some hope. I guess I didn't realize that there was this overlap between the mobile and desktop versions of Ubuntu. If you are saying that once the convergence is...

Thanks for the thoughtful responses. My 2 cents:

I absolutely LOVE that idea and wanted it the first time I saw it. An Android phone AND an ubuntu desktop in combination....sweet. But as far...

Re: why is skype still available for Linux

Microsoft, like many larger corporations, has figured out that some (maybe most) acquisitions work best when they are left alone. They've largely left Skype alone, and apparently the people who run...

  13. [ubuntu] Re: Tripp-lite PowerAlert RPM - can't convert with Alien

This isn't working for me. My x64 Ubuntu server 12.04 will not run the pald executable.... presumably because it is a 32bit exec on a 64bit system. Installing ia32libs seemed way overkill. Any...

[ubuntu] New gazp7 - suspend problems

My new Gazelle laptop will (for the most part) not resume from a suspend if the lid is closed. For what its worth its a software bug and there is much discussion on it on launchpad.

  18. [ubuntu] Re: Kernel Updates on LemU4, PanP9, and GazP7 Laptops

Something different every time. The last time I was sitting there watching a software compile scroll past.

I did go to System76 support who put me on a kernel version 3.3.6 late...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Kernel Updates on LemU4, PanP9, and GazP7 Laptops

  20. [ubuntu] Re: Is there a System76 laptop with a higher end graphics adapter?

  21. [ubuntu] Re: Is there a System76 laptop with a higher end graphics adapter?

Thanks for the tip, those are perfect, but WOW....expensive. I may just bite the bullet and get a System76...stay tuned. I've also heard that Dell is working on a high-end Ubuntu laptop...codenamed...
  22. [ubuntu] Re: Is there a System76 laptop with a higher end graphics adapter?

Finally heard back from their sales support.

I am so bummed..they have nothing with a higher end graphics card and have no near term plans to have one either.

  23. [ubuntu] Re: Is there a System76 laptop with a higher end graphics adapter?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going to call them and see what the ETA is on a high-end graphics laptop. I'll report back when I find out.
  24. [ubuntu] Is there a System76 laptop with a higher end graphics adapter?

My Dell XPS crapped out and I need to score a new laptop ASAP. I've been running Ubuntu for years, so a System76 is a no-brainer for me, but on the website there seems to be only display option...
