I'm looking for a live cd that I can pop in and be able to watch avi/mkv video formats. (preferably using vlc but I'll take what I can get.) My video card is the Geforce 9400 GT.
Thanks!

It looks like it's installed and I know the password is right.
Thanks. I'm using my windows partition write now. Could these steps be done using a live cd?
So I formatted over my linux partition... Oops. :(
Is there any free software out there that can recover photos? (That's all I need)
The thing is I can't recover the whole partition... Because...

Whenever I am using java(Runescape) I get no sound for anything else. When I try to play an mp3 in rhythmbox, the song slider doesn't move when played. Vlc player can play videos, but there will be...
I'm pretty sure Xfce is just a stripped down version of gnome to run on lower specs, and not it's own windows manager.
I didn't know you could run Ubuntu on such low specs...
I can't answer your question ,but I'd recommend you try a lighter distro like Fluxbuntu. Do you get a lot of freezes?
Well you don't have to. I would try to find out how hard it would be to reinstall GRUB... And if you think it won't be too much of a hassle go for it.
Download the Gparted Live CD.
Oh, and if you install windows to a new partition your GRUB won't load properly. Your best bet, if possible, would be to store your files on an external harddrive and...
I have sound in Java (runescape.)
I'm having very similar issues.
Try burning the iso onto a new cd at a slower speed.
Ok, this all started when I removed the java that comes with the ubuntu-restricted-extras, and installed the lastest one from there site. While this fixed one problem it also caused a few.

I'm pretty sure the system requirements listed are for Dapper.
And about the "forced updates", you can turn off updates completely so that would cover that.
I've used deluge countless times and it always seems to break, crash, ect.
The thing for me is, even with wine, utorrent still uses the least amount of resources and also downloads just as fast as a native client.
Mainly fast download speed, and low on system resources.
I'm aware of that (in fact I'm downloading with it right now!) it's that will we ever see a native client like utorrent for linux?
As of right now there is no Linux bittorrent client out that can come close to comparing with that of Utorrent on Windows. Is there any chance of a Linux competitor in the near future?
ps- not...
Yep, deleting the deluge folder did it. Thanks ! :)
I installed it from a .deb package.
sudo apt-get install cheese
Could you explain this part please?
