I'm looking for a live cd that I can pop in and be able to watch avi/mkv video formats. (preferably using vlc but I'll take what I can get.) My video card is the Geforce 9400 GT.

    Thanks!

    [ubuntu] Enabling Su?

    erik@erik-desktop:~$ su
    Password:
    su: Authentication failure
    erik@erik-desktop:~$

It looks like it's installed and I know the password is right.

Is there any free software out there that can recover photos? (That's all I need)

The thing is I can't recover the whole partition... Because...

[xubuntu] Re: Thunar has GNOME 'foot' logo?

I'm pretty sure Xfce is just a stripped down version of gnome to run on lower specs, and not it's own windows manager.

    [ubuntu] Re: Upgrade Issues

I didn't know you could run Ubuntu on such low specs...

I can't answer your question ,but I'd recommend you try a lighter distro like Fluxbuntu. Do you get a lot of freezes?
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Possible to make a partion in Ubuntu without formatting?

Well you don't have to. I would try to find out how hard it would be to reinstall GRUB... And if you think it won't be too much of a hassle go for it.
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Possible to make a partion in Ubuntu without formatting?

    Download the Gparted Live CD.

Oh, and if you install windows to a new partition your GRUB won't load properly. Your best bet, if possible, would be to store your files on an external harddrive and...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: mp3s won't play, no video sound(offline), youtube can't play videos

  14. [ubuntu] Re: help installing ubuntu. stumped on what to do after selecting install

Try burning the iso onto a new cd at a slower speed.
  15. [ubuntu] mp3s won't play, no video sound(offline), youtube can't play videos

Ok, this all started when I removed the java that comes with the ubuntu-restricted-extras, and installed the lastest one from there site. While this fixed one problem it also caused a few.

    Please...
  16. [xubuntu] Re: Differences between Hardy Heron and Dapper Drake?

I'm pretty sure the system requirements listed are for Dapper.

And about the "forced updates", you can turn off updates completely so that would cover that.
  17. Re: Will Linux ever have a decent (native) bittorrent client?

I've used deluge countless times and it always seems to break, crash, ect.
  18. Re: Will Linux ever have a decent (native) bittorrent client?

The thing for me is, even with wine, utorrent still uses the least amount of resources and also downloads just as fast as a native client.
  19. Re: Will Linux ever have a decent (native) bittorrent client?

Mainly fast download speed, and low on system resources.
  20. Re: Will Linux ever have a decent (native) bittorrent client?

I'm aware of that (in fact I'm downloading with it right now!) it's that will we ever see a native client like utorrent for linux?
  21. Will Linux ever have a decent (native) bittorrent client?

As of right now there is no Linux bittorrent client out that can come close to comparing with that of Utorrent on Windows. Is there any chance of a Linux competitor in the near future?

    ps- not...
