Re: Howto: Backup and restore your system!

Cron would be an alternative. But there are a a number of tools made just for backups. Rsync would be a good first suggestion.

Here's some community documentation on the subject...

    Of course,...

    Re: Whut ?

Removing the source for a third party software seems to have solved this issue for me. Time will tell though. Cherokee Server was the third party source in my case.
  4. [ubuntu] Re: My wireless icon, sound icon, and others are missing!

Although this is an old thread, I made a mistake today when shutting down transmission.

To fix, what you need to do is: right click on the panel > select "add to panel" > scroll through the list...

    [ubuntu] Re: ubuntu 9.10 release

Just installed that leaked version, all appears well. Ran update tool and it reports my system being up-to-date.

This is NOT an endorsement! It's merely a report on how my system is doing SO FAR...

    [ubuntu] Re: ubuntu 9.10 release

Warning repeated, if you download and install a "leaked" final release of Ubuntu, you should be aware if it could be corrupt. Noobs are best advised to not do so.

With that said however, here's a...

I'm d/l'ing now and will check that the MD5SUMS matches before burning.

  11. Windows - Refund from the manufacture?

A while back, the big computer makers were giving refund for the Windows OS providing the EULA was not accepted on a new system. I recall a fair amount of talk about Dell and HP doing this.

    My...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Volume Slider/Control near Clock does nothing

*holds back laughing with you* I'd say it isn't.

Have a look at this thread. If any of it sounds familar, follow suit with the fixes listed there.

May or may not be related but, please look at the following thread. Try the fixes mentioned in it.

    Can't hurt, right? ;)
  14. [ubuntu] Re: Volume Slider/Control near Clock does nothing

Alrighty then, this is just weird!

Have a look in Preferences > Sound and see what is listed. See if anything resembling your card/drivers are listed.
  15. [ubuntu] Re: Volume Slider/Control near Clock does nothing

If you right click on the appelet and select "open volume control" you will see more options to have a go at.

    [ubuntu] Re: copy user profile

    Yes

Makes no difference. You are only transferring a profile folder, that would keep things setup the way you had them on the originating box... for those specific programs.
