After upgrading to version 1.0.23. on my laptop all was well until I plugged my logitech USB headphones/mic in. The computer froze instantly, nothing worked, so I had to turn it off by force...
Everything went well and the sound is working fine :-) Thank's for the help. Now I only hope that I won't need to post here again ;-)

I have the same problem on a HP CQ61-414 Sound works fine for some hours after bootup but the dies :-( I ran
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec and got:

It works fine with a clean install. There seems to be a problem with the upgrader. My friend had a similar problem when using the upgrader on his desktop. It didn't freeze but bootup was very slow.
I did an upgrade using the manager. have no idea how to set some boot options only get the splash screen and then black screen of death.

Great guide, saved me completely. fmiboy I got the same problem and since I don't have much experience with linux I used the old dirty method of restarting and that got it working.
I found this thread searching for a solution to my own "power manager" problem, turned out it was a full HD. After deleting some files everything went back to normal :-) Thank you all for the help.
