I tried a fresh boot of 12.04. The results were worse. Only a half-screen and the mouse made trails. Finally I have had it with a bloated and botched Ubuntu. Converted to CrunchBang. All problems...

    [ubuntu] Re: Sony Vaio X-Series

It tried a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 and the result was horrible. Impossible to get the display to be the right size and other problems.

  3. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 11.04: Nvidia problem: Laptop - can't connect to external monitor

Found the info in http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/lucid/man1/alt-nvidia-96-xconfig.1.html and all is well again: that is most things still don't work in 11.10, but at least the X server does. ...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 11.04: Nvidia problem: Laptop - can't connect to external monitor

Found NVIDIA in the setttings menue and activated it. It seemed to change some configuration file after making a backup. Then I restarted. Black screen - the X server is broken. I can login with...

    [ubuntu] Re: Sony Vaio X-Series

Same here. And under 11.10, it's gotten worse. Now the ethernet connection no longer functions, nor do the built-in speakers. Even the wifi is flaky. I love this little machine though and may have to...

[ubuntu] Re: How to enable TCP connections to XServer?

I'm running 10.10 and have the same problem. I have also edited the gdm/custom.conf as suggested by a blog. No joy. Really frustrating that Ubuntu has made a basic linux networking function so...
  10. Re: 11.04 no longer connects with Droid Hotspot

Oh, and the Droid hotspot still works fine with 10.04.
  11. Re: 11.04 no longer connects with Droid Hotspot

Yes,I agree it does not seem to make sense. But on this forum you can find lots of other people having the same problem, and not only with the Droid hotspot but even with tethering.

    Something...

Same here - I didn't see this thread and had posted http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10984909#post10984909

Of course neither the handset nor the cell provider will deal with this. Probably...
  14. Re: 11.04 no longer connects with Droid Hotspot

Ah, found this thread: "Android 2.2 WLAN 3G Hotspot and"
Seems there is some fundamental problem with 11.04 no
    longer working with Droid hotspots.

Would it be a driver if the problem is only with a Droid hotspot? As I said, all other hotspots work fine.

  19. [ubuntu] Re: Unity Wifi password authentication broken

My bad: the problem is not security. But 11.04 does not work with a DROID hotspot even if unsecured.

Here is another report of 11.04 allowing only unsecured connections: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10898347
