It tried a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 and the result was horrible. Impossible to get the display to be the right size and other problems.
I have converted to CrunchBang. Wonderful! Forget...
Found the info in http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/lucid/man1/alt-nvidia-96-xconfig.1.html and all is well again: that is most things still don't work in 11.10, but at least the X server does. ...
Found NVIDIA in the setttings menue and activated it. It seemed to change some configuration file after making a backup. Then I restarted. Black screen - the X server is broken. I can login with...
Good website but did not help for Sony Vaio X under 11.10.
Anyone tried Mint Debian with the Vaio X yet?
Same here. And under 11.10, it's gotten worse. Now the ethernet connection no longer functions, nor do the built-in speakers. Even the wifi is flaky. I love this little machine though and may have to...
(Based on post on closed thread by mpenda)
1. Removed "-nolisten TCP" from /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrrc

I'm running 10.10 and have the same problem. I have also edited the gdm/custom.conf as suggested by a blog. No joy. Really frustrating that Ubuntu has made a basic linux networking function so...
Oh, and the Droid hotspot still works fine with 10.04.
Yes,I agree it does not seem to make sense. But on this forum you can find lots of other people having the same problem, and not only with the Droid hotspot but even with tethering.
Something...
This seems to be a HUGE problem with 11.04. There is another thread about "tethering" no longer working in this release too. "Ubuntu 11.04 tethering problem". I can't believe no one is publishing a...

Of course neither the handset nor the cell provider will deal with this. Probably...

Would it be a driver if the problem is only with a Droid hotspot? As I said, all other hotspots work fine.

My bad: the problem is not security. But 11.04 does not work with a DROID hotspot even if unsecured.
Here is another report of 11.04 allowing only unsecured connections: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10898347
Someone else reports the "hardware does not support unity" and wifi problem with a different ultraportable: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1764218&highlight=unity+wifi+problem

One good reason for wanting not to need separate box and a TV is that Netflix streaming offers a good alternative to airline movies on long flights that have WiFi. If you aren't running Linux. :(
