to get launcher to both open and close I need two Exec='s
would that look like?

the launcher works great from "/usr/share/applications" with two "Ejects" it just won't show up in menu
I believe I had that right and it didn't show up in 'Accessories"
I've managed to make a launcher in /usr/share/applications. (lubuntu 11.4) to open/close optical drive. But it will only work if you open "/usr/share/applications" and click on it. It does not show...

you can find icons may places but my fav is google images. mostly they will be jpegs. open them up in gimp and change to png & then layers/transparency/color to alpha....

I also could not get WiCD to work with 9.04. The WiCD forms are full of problems with 9.04 and no real fixes. If there is a fix I would like to know about it.
The Wicd forms are full of problems (allot the same as yours) with 9.04 with no real answer. I went back to networkmanger.
