Re: Today I met the creator of this site

Did I say it does? What are you talking about? Matters or no, it is kind of curious that he abandoned this forum and created his own again.
  2. Re: Ubuntu advocates have lost the right to criticize Vista

distrowatch "stats" really is garbage, it has nothing to do with defending Canonical. Why would you visit distrowatch unless you are distrohopping or shopping for something different? It tarcks...

Being a staff member and being active are two different things. Since the guy found the forum I think it is natural that he would be on the councli whether he is active on not. I never remember...

I think he started another Ubuntu forum.

  5. Re: Ubuntu advocates have LOST the right to criticize Vista

I know, I just can't see why "reliable" in that sense would be desirable for non "enterprise" users,--that would be most of us.
  6. Re: Ubuntu advocates have LOST the right to criticize Vista

Don't think LTS has anything to do with "reliable" performance. 10.10 is way better than 10.04 and 11.04 is better 10.10 (even though you have to wait about 3-4 months after Natty's release for that...
  7. Re: Ubuntu advocates have LOST the right to criticize Vista

Yep, I am always 3-6 months behind. Natty is now in a very sweet spot. It is insane to update with Ubuntu's release schedule. The pattern is , just when one version becomes really polished and stable...
  8. Re: Ubuntu advocates have LOST the right to criticize Vista

11.04 has turned out to be a very solid OS 3-4 months into release I am pretty sure that 11.10 will be great in a month or two. These OSes were released prematurely? Maybe, but there is no Vista in...
  9. Re: Development Why use a distro like Ubuntu instead of an Rolling one?

  10. [SOLVED] Re: Tried to install Handbrake through PPA; Software Center does not run now; error

If you are using Ubuntu 11.10 you have to install with the snapshots ppa instead of the "releases" one,

    so change the commands to

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stebbins/handbrake-snapshots
    sudo...

  12. Re: Windows 8 lets microsoft remove data without your consent

I wonder what does MS consider "malware" (maybe torrent files?) If you run virus scans with AVs usually there is a prompt asking the user what to do with suspicious files before actions are taken...
  13. Re: Windows 8 lets microsoft remove data without your consent

It is possible for compatiblity reasons, but not your data.
Yeah, that it is MS is a very good reason to be concerned.

So what kind of "discrimination" do you think would make MS deleting...

  15. Re: What you would like to see, changed or fixed in Precise Pangolin ?

Well every installer for every new Ubuntu release I have tried.

I have reinstalled 11.10 a 5th time last week with a new iso. Guess what? It crashed on me again (unchecking downloading updates...

[SOLVED] Re: mp3 support amarok 11.10

To get Amarok to play mp3 you have to install the package libxine1-ffmpeg. For other players installing the restricted-extras seems sufficient but Amarok is peculiar that way.

    The fluendo thing...
