    Believe it or not, but alot of older computers can't boot cd's. Windows 95/98 computers required you to create a boot floppy, which loaded cd-rom drivers. So you could boot the install disk.

    No, xargs pass multiple arguments to a command. In this case each line from the output of ls -a is an argument in xargs. Lets say you have three files when running ls -a.



    text1.txt
    text2.txt...
