I get this quite often as well. Mostly when copying data to/from external HD.

Is the Packages.gz here a list of all packages in ubuntu that have been updated since the release? Or what purpose does that provide?

Is there any way of scanning a local repository (on my pc) to see if dependancies for all packages are satisfied and to show what packages are missing?
