    type `which compiz` in a terminal and you can see where compiz is starting from if you don't add a path for it.

    AFAIK the '--prefix=' should be in empty directory, or one the distro sets for it....

    In Ubuntu 11.04 64bit I tried to compile compiz 0.8.8 into /opt/compiz0.8.8

    replacing the `./configure` lines with this
