  1. [ubuntu] Re: ATI HD 6970 - Installing Catalyst 11.6 in Maverick

I do indeed, and also have tmp mounted in RAM with noexec - thanks!

I previously got round the issue by having the installer run directly without making a .deb package.

[ubuntu] Re: ATI 6950 Black Screen

In case it's useful, I ended up installing directly from the driver without creating a .deb package.

Ubuntu is displaying the desktop okay (though limited to 1600x1200) after my having installed my new HD 6970 card, so I'm now trying to install the proprietary driver (I understand the open source...

[ubuntu] Re: All music players crash (segfault?)

I seem to have the same problem in 10.10. I submitted a bug report to Pidgin as it was crashing on every message sent/received, and it turned out that was gstreamer. Clementine also crashes when...

    Re: 2012?

    How much do you have?

The spaceship will run on a percentage-based power generation technology, so I recommend giving at least 80% of your savings to ensure we can launch.

    Re: 2012?

Yes the world will end in 2012. However, you are fortunate in that you may escape on my spaceship in 2011. (If you send me enough money so that I and my invisible alien friends can build it.)

[ubuntu] Re: Help with First RAID

    A couple of questions:

Do you wish to use Linux software RAID? Lots do and it comes highly recommended, as opposed to fake Motherbord RAID, which doesn't come highly recommended at all.

    Do you...

[ubuntu] Re: Upgrading 7.04 to 9.04 - RAID

Yeah, /boot would be RAID1 as per my last idea. I'll stick to using just the four drives which are already in the PC as I don't want to be fiddling in there right now.

So I guess I've got to the...

[ubuntu] Re: Upgrading 7.04 to 9.04 - RAID

I realised I never stated that this is software RAID.

To clarify/update my idea: I'm thinking that it might be good for me to run Ubuntu itself from a separate RAID array, for example:
