The double input is due to the streamzap being registered with both xinput and lirc. Both are adding their events to anything listening, so a steamzap event equal two events.

ok, I swear I tried this before, but, a kernel update took out all the kernel boot options I had in my menu.lst file, and sound sprang to life!
Maybe the options I had for getting acpi working...
