Thanks!...

That is not a solution -- it is a replacement.
Woooo!!!!!!!!!! Yet another Ubuntu bug!
Muzer, thanks for the idea. Turns out it was my USB based KVM switch. Much better now. Then I had an issue with my nvidia graphics card. I used the binary driver, and now that's coming back from...
I cannot get my DFI LanParty nF4 Ultra-D motherboard to suspend. I have default BIOS setting, and I'm pretty sure the BIOS is current.
Here's my kernel.log:

Creating a filter in Synaptic just shows packages that are orphaned for maintenance (or something). It doesn't show packages that have no packages dependent on it.

I have no idea. Sorry. That's a weird problem. Maybe check in Synaptic Package Manager and double-check your software sources? I really don't know. What version of Ubuntu are you using?

Maybe there are 2 good question to be asked. We know Windows is an OK operating system (FUD and privacy issues aside). The questions are
1) Why didn't you try Ubuntu when you heard about it?

Ok, forgive me ignorance -- I'm new to this. Did you try installing the .deb from Adobe or the tar.gz? Also, are you using the 32 bit or 64 bit version of Karmic?

You all have great ideas about Linux and its adoption -- that's awesome. The question is: what are we going to do about it? Ubuntu is already available on certain dell models (I was looking at a...

I heard Fluendo has a DVD player and Power DVD sells one through the canonical...

(Although I didn't do much :) )

lol. Ubuntu support sucks. I guess all OS support sucks. Maybe one day someone will make an OS with decent support.

If hda=noprobe worked, maybe the kernel was updated -- hda=noprobe became obsolete after 2.6.25 (Intrepid Ibex). If you want to troubleshoot the problem you probably want to look at libata. That's...
Well, not only is hdx=noprobe obsolete in any linux kernel, ide_core.noprobe=x.y is not appropriate for Ubuntu because we use libata instead of ide (hence all the sdx's instead of hdx's). Will keep...
Ok. hdx=noprobe has been obsolete for some time -- since 2.6.25 -- so that would make hdx=noprobe useless for intrepid and newer. I've been trying the new version of that command:...
I believe I need the drivers not the be loaded at all (for the drives). I'm installing a Highpoint Rocket Raid 1520 and I can't have the kernel load its own drivers. I need it to not load anything...
I am trying to disable all drives when booting off the live cd. (I am trying to install a driver for my raid card.) I've tried all the following from the boot prompt, but none of them work:
