Sorry to hear you're having trouble with this adapter. I believe the Belkin USB has been working "out of the box" since Ibex. Which version of Ubuntu are you using?

If you have an old driver hanging around that might be conflicting, get the Netgear USB working and run the following:
ndiswrapper -l
This should show that the Netgear driver is installed and...

Had similar problem - Installed WiFi-Radar - Combined with Network Manager seemed to solve the problem.
Same problem on Wolvix Cub. Haven't checked Ubuntu. Any solution?

I've always had to use ndiswrapper to install the drivers for this usb adapter. Install has been the same using ndiswrapper and the Belkin install cd as follows:
Unplug adapter before you boot.
