gloobus is a previewer if you just launch the application of course you'll get an empty black box because there s nothing to preview.
You can use from command line
gloobus-preview...
fixed, sry i am running maverick as my default system so i had to launch a VM to check and rebuild the package.
rebuilded and tested, should works fine now. just wait for your ppa to be updated.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gloobus-dev/gloobus-preview
apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gloobus-preview
that's it.

sudo apt-get install --reinstall gloobus-preview
gloobus package has been updated, libgvfscommon0 dependency has been removed like it was an old deprecated dependency.

nautilus-elementary can't be in official repository because it replace an existing package (nautilus). To be packaged in an official repository it take to rewrite too many components to get separates...
@t.wicks i suggest u reinstall correctly nautilus from the ppa. Many of your output errors come from missing icons.
i can't help you with packaging but debian packages for nautilus-elementary already exist. You should try hadret ppa:
