Personally, I would advice people who want to try out Ubuntu to try the "regular" Ubuntu that comes with Gnome because KDE has a lot of options, which might be a bit overwhelming if your just getting...
I think the above answers to your problem are sufficient and should work so I will not repeat it but I would like to add that if you really want to configure your server from the terminal it might be...

I actually don't really use my phone for anything else than text messaging, phone calls and the occasional web-browsing in the train. Seriously I could not...
As far as I know lampp is just a package of separate programs so I don't think it's possible to try to run it the way you do. Instead try running them separately like so:
/etc/init.d/apache2 start...
I voted 'yes' but not really because the menu's are annoying, it's just that alt+F2 is faster.
I agree with Dustin, these analogies are overly complicated and unnecessary if you ask me.
I have a similar problem: my sound volume and envelope icons are missing and I can't find a way to get them back. :(
My guess would be that you installed the boot loader on the usb stick, if that's the case you can load Ubuntu with the usb stick in you pc and then install grub on your hard disk. After that you...
Ah yes, I remembered incorrectly: XFCE is based on the gtk toolkit not on Gnome :P
I've had some problems with upgrading in the past so ever since I've been sticking to LTS releases for 2 to 3 years and then do a clean install. :)
Well KDE does not support GTK applications such as Firefox and Openoffice which causes them to get a pretty basic (and ugly!) graphical representation in KDE. But in Kubuntu this has been somewhat...

You can generate an xorg.conf file by running:
'sudo Xorg -configure'
However, before running this command make sure you know the specifications of your gpu and monitor.
With hostname -f you are trying to ask the system's fully qualified domain name, other than that it does nothing and should really be of no importance to you if your server is just for the clients...
I don't know what some of you are talking about but Firefox has never ever been slow for me. Plus I like the add-ons you can download to customize the browser, adblock plus in particular. I don't...
If you are on a wire (which I believe you said you are) try doing this:
'sudo ifconfig eth0 up'
'sudo dhclient eth0'
This should get you an IP address.
Have you checked if you get an IP address? If not, try manually changing your network interface to up and do a dhcp request. If you do have an IP address can you ping any websites?
I voted for too little because that way you can just install the programs that you actually want to have and keep a minimal system. That's one of the things I really like about Arch Linux for...
Only issues I've had so far is the "introduction of plymouth messes up the bootsplash" thing and on my laptop the system tray gets randomly messed up. It sure ain't nice for such a high quality...
Hmmm well I don't have any experience with the Cisco vpn client myself so I am afraid I can't help you much further. But I did notice this thread which might prove to be useful for you:

Perhaps a silly question but are you sure that the new partition you made to replace the old one is flagged as "bootable"?
I don't think the kernel headers are the problem here... It is the driver_build.sh that's
generating the error: the script can't open it. Have you checked the permissions on that
file?
I decided to look into this some more and found this:

I still have not found a solution for this problem and to prevent this thread from getting buried I'm bumping it.
*Bump*
Is there really no-one who knows of a solution to the problem of totem...
Very odd... Usually during install you are asked if you want ubuntu to ask for your password or automatically log you in. The fact that you get logged in automatically would suggest you consciously...
