    I've got an EEE PC 701 with 10.04 installed. If you like so much 10.10 then you can live with 10.04 and its support ends in 2013.

    I am using the ZTE MF627 modem. I have installed it using usb-modeswitch. I have read somewhere that you would need to set it to 3G only using a Windows computer but I don't want to keep on switching...

    If you don't have anything important on your box then you can do a complete reinstall of Ubuntu 10.10. It's much easier than figuring out what has messed...

    If the plymouth is not accepted it defaults into a blank screen.

    Just choose the default ubuntu logo plymouth for now see if it works.

    Most of the fixes require setting a different resolution...

    That's ok it just means you still have no xorg config file. After that's installed, check System>Administration>Hardware Drivers
    activate it if necessary.

    there's something wrong with your dependencies during the building of the .deb files.

    you can purge your fglrx again just to make sure that there is nothing left with the old driver installation...
