    There should be a rc.lighttpd script in /usr/share/doc/lighttpd/doc/ which you copy to /etc/init.d and run
    update-rc.d...

    Did the source checkout complete error free?

    Did "configure" or "make" produce any errors?

    Does /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf exist?

    I installed the same as you apart from "make install"....

    You've just created your system's first security hole. Don't make folders world readable or writable unless absolutely necessary. Only the rtorrent user needs write access to this folder. chmod it...
