Unchecking the "Play log-in sound" under

Will cause the "sytem-ready.ogg" to be disabled.

This did the thing for me for Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP G62 laptop
~$ sudo aptitude update
~$ sudo aptitude install linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic
and reboot!

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP G62.

It was the same for me. Had to install wireless card and had problems with my sound.

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my HP G62 (don't know what exact model) and had the same problem and now it is working fine! :)
Everything is working like it should.
